Program director and faculty

Laurie B. Gesell, MD

Program Director, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship

Dr. Gesell is an Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated with honors from UMD-NJ Medical School in 1991 and has more than 29 years of diverse experience, especially in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

Cory R. DuBose, DO

Dr. DuBose is a board-certified hyperbaric and undersea medicine physician with a special interest in treating patients for limb salvage, clinical indications for hyperbaric medicine, dive medicine and wound care. He is a part of a comprehensive team that operates an emergent 24-hour Fink multi-place hyperbaric chamber at the quaternary Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.

He completed his primary family medicine training at the Broward County Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and completed his fellowship training for Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is originally from Florida and his interest in hyperbarics stemmed from his enjoyment with recreational SCUBA diving.

Gerald Godfrey, MD

Dr. Gerald Godfrey is an Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated with honors from Brown University Medical School in 1994 and has more than 20 years of diverse experience, especially in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and Emergency Medicine.

After earning his undergraduate degree from Columbia University, Dr. Godfrey attended both Dartmouth Medical School and Brown University School of Medicine, earning his medical doctorate from the latter. Following graduation, he pursued training in both internal medicine and general surgery, completing his general surgery residency through the University of Massachusetts at Berkshire Medical Center. He spent over a decade in the practice of general surgery before focusing his interest on wound management and wound care delivery.

He completed a fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he served as Associate Director of Hyperbaric Medicine.

Dr. Godfrey is board-certified in both general surgery and undersea and hyperbaric medicine. He is currently a member of Advocate Aurora Health, practicing principally at Aurora Saint Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he chairs the committee overseeing best clinical practices for all indications of hyperbaric oxygen therapy across the System.

Kyle J. DuBose, DO

Dr. DuBose is board-certified in Hyperbaric and Undersea Medicine as well as Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. Dr. DuBose completed his family medicine and OMT residency at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Upon graduation he received the Mentor Award, presented from fellow residents, as well as the Resident of the Year award, presented from Attendings. Dr. DuBose completed his Fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI.

After fellowship, Dr. DuBose joined Advocate Aurora Health in August 2017. He is the base physician for the comprehensive hyperbaric medicine and wound care department at Aurora Medical Center Kenosha and leads one of three limb salvage teams from a multidisciplinary approach at Advocate Aurora Health.

He has a special interest in treating all clinical indications for hyperbaric medicine, dive medicine, and wound care. He is a member on the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society Subcommittee for Radiation and Soft Tissue Injury and is the Chair for the Utilization Review Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine Department at Advocate Aurora Health. His passions outside of work include family, SCUBA diving, football, golf, and the Florida Gators.

Itamar Gnatt, MD

Dr. Gnatt is an Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine specialist at Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, primarily based out of West Allis Memorial Hospital and St. Luke's Medical Center. He graduated from the Technion American Medical School (Haifa, Israel) in 2017, and completed his family medicine residency and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine fellowship at Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (in 2020 and 2021, respectively) and currently holds a faculty position in the latter. He is a part of a comprehensive team that operates an emergent 24-hour Fink multi-place hyperbaric chamber at St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Saira Khan, MD

Dr. Khan is an Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine specialist at Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, primarily based out of West Allis Memorial Hospital and St. Luke's Medical Center. She graduated from the King Edward Medical University (Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan) in 2004, and completed her family medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin (St. Joseph's program) in 2010. Dr. Khan completed her Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine fellowship at Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2022 and currently holds a faculty position in the latter. She is a part of a comprehensive team that operates an emergent 24-hour Fink multi-place hyperbaric chamber and limb salvage program at St. Luke’s Medical Center.
