Contact usThe Aurora Rural Family Medicine Residency is a 1-2 year Family Medicine residency program.
Residents spend their PGY1 in Milwaukee on inpatient rotations with the Aurora St. Luke’s Family Medicine residents, and PGY2 and PGY3 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center practicing and learning Rural Family Medicine. Residents’ continuity clinic is at Aurora Lakeland for all three years.
Purpose
Program goals
The Aurora Lakeland Rural Family Medicine Residency program graduates board-certified family physicians who will:
- Provide competent, comprehensive primary care to the general population across the spectrum of health care, home and community settings
- Address the special health care needs of rural populations, including issues of access, affordability and unique medical problems
- Consider establishing their practice in an underserved rural area, especially in south central Wisconsin
Program objectives
Graduating residents will have demonstrated competence in:
- Patient care and procedures, providing primary care for all ages and genders
- Medical knowledge, maintaining a working knowledge of current evidence-based best practices
- Practice-based learning and improvement, through lifelong learning, self-evaluation and professional improvement
- Interpersonal and communication skills, building collaborative relationships with patients, families and colleagues
- Professionalism, by respecting the rights, values, beliefs and needs of all patients, colleagues and students
- Systems-based practice, functioning effectively as a member and leader of health care teams and systems
Curriculum
Residents spend their first year in Milwaukee for inpatient and ED rotations at Aurora St. Luke’s, Aurora Sinai, and Children’s Hospitals, working alongside Aurora Milwaukee’s Family Medicine residents. Years 2 and 3 are at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn and surrounding communities. The resident continuity clinic is at ALMC in Elkhorn all 3 years.
