Advance your knowledge and skills in medical education. Our clinician educator and clinician teacher faculty development programs use evidence-based models and interactive techniques to enhance your expertise.
Development programs
Our current education programs focus on physician teachers and educators primarily in southeastern Wisconsin, with opportunities available for our Advocate Aurora Health colleagues throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
Clinician educator
This program focuses on the breadth of competencies needed for those who lead, co-lead and/or aspire to have a major role in our residency/fellowship, clerkships, CME, simulation and/or medical education initiatives.
The 18–24-month, project-based program meets 3 hours per month, in addition to about 1 hour per week of “outside” time (e.g., reading, practicing, gathering data, reviewing project drafts).
You will:
- Actively apply evidence-based principles in instructional design, learner assessment, evaluation, leadership and teaching using a scholarly approach.
- Receive mentorship from experienced clinician teachers, and get guidance on how to optimize your current and future educator roles.
Clinician teacher
These 45-minute, hands-on sessions give you an opportunity to learn and practice specific skills and get constructive feedback on your teaching style.
Topics include:
- Difficult teaching case conference series
- Education scholarship
- One-minute preceptor
- Teaching in a patient’s presence
- Providing feedback and assessing for milestones in a clinical setting
- Interactive small group teaching in a classroom setting
Orientation to Aurora Medical Education
This 60–90-minute orientation is for new physician teachers. It provides an overview of our medical education programs across the continuum, from medical student to resident-fellow through continuing medical education.
We’ll review how accreditation and competency requirements at each training level can help us maximize our training and patient care priorities.

All sessions are co-taught by Advocate Aurora Health’s nationally recognized medical educators and award-winning teachers, including faculty drawn from our medical student, resident and continuing medical education programs.
