Stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to, and within the brain. According to the American Stroke Association, it’s a leading cause of disability and the fifth leading cause of death in the US. Strokes are classified as either ischemic or hemorrhagic.

Pre-Hospital Care Guidelines

Aurora South WI EMS has pre-hospital care guidelines to guide the treatment of patients suffering a stroke. A critical piece of information you’ll need to collect and relay to the hospital is the patient’s “Last Known Well” (LKW).
