Experience a short-term clinical placement

Aurora’s clinical placements for visiting 4th year MD & DO students provide a hands-on experience with a diverse patient population, fostering growth of medical knowledge and building confidence.

Note: We do not allow for visiting 3rd year MD & DO student rotations. We must have an active affiliation agreement on file to consider 4th year MD & DO students for rotations. No additional affiliation agreements are being sought at this time.

Welcome students

As a visiting student, you will learn from critically acclaimed medical professionals from all over the world and work with some of the most vulnerable and under-served populations in the state. Working and learning with these patients will enhance your understanding of the effects of socioeconomic and educational disparities on health and give you an appreciation of the strength and resilience of urban communities.

We also have opportunities for students to complete sub-I and audition rotations with our residency programs, including family medicine, internal medicine, radiology, and OB/GYN.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: We ask that you don't contact any Aurora Providers. All rotations must be scheduled through our office for elective and audition rotations. All requests should be sent to our department mailbox. Thank you!

Application process

Scheduling timeline

The application period for the 2024-2025 academic year is outlined below:

Applications for elective rotations will be accepted beginning on Feb 1, 2024. Rotations will be scheduled as capacity allows.

Applications will be accepted for sub-I and audition rotations with our Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, OB/GYN, and Radiology programs from February 1 - May 1, 2024 only. Applications will be reviewed by program leaders in May, and students are notified if they are being offered a spot or not by late June.

Applications for electives in other specialty areas will be accepted beginning April 1, 2024. Note that until further notice we are unable to offer elective 4th year rotations in Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and Psychiatry. Thank you for your understanding.

Note that visiting students will be limited to 3 rotations with Aurora Health Care. An administrative fee is charged for elective rotations (not for sub-I and audition rotations) and more information can be shared after an application has been submitted to our department.

We are not offering rotations to students of international medical schools until further notice.

To apply, download and complete the clerkship application and return to medical.education@aah.org, per the instructions on page 2 of the application.

For elective rotation requests, please complete only pages 1-2 of the application.

Note that requests for sub-I or audition rotations for Internal Medicine or OB/GYN require completion of additional pages at the end of the application, along with submission of additional materials.
